South Dakota and Crazy Horse

Continuing west, I left Minnesota and took the long drive to South Dakota.

Well, they certainly don't make vegetarians feel welcome!!!

I drove to the Crazy Horse Memorial, but did not go inside (that will have to wait for another trip).  This monument has been in the making for nearly 60 years (it was started in 1948).  I wonder if it will ever be completed!?

This is a beautiful place called Bear Butte State Park.  To the Indians in this area, it is considered sacred ground.  There are prayer flags in a lot of the trees.

This is a pretty place to take an easy hike.

Look, I know the rule very well - you're not supposed to feed the wildlife.  But, these chipmunks were all over the place.  They were SO cute and looked SO hungry.  What was the harm in giving them some Rice Krispies?

He called a little pal to join him!

At first the Rice Krispies were intimidating . . .

. . . but, it didn't take them long to figure out they were good!

A beautiful full moon my first night in South Dakota - What could be better?
